French craft and design at Index Dubai STAND SS3-B60. “International MCM is delighted to introduce and represent French artists Etienne Moyat and Emilie Langlais at INDEX Dubai !!! “
“Both artists have exceptional and globally recognized know how and will inspire you for your interior design projects.”
Emilie Mazeau Langlais has been designing and creating cardboard furniture for over ten years. The technique she has perfected reminds of the cabinetmaker’s sense of practical beauty. Brown cardboard is ennobled by her patient work, and by the reference to the aristocratic 18th century. Her pieces, whether you call them sculpture or furniture, are challenging the 21st century, rejecting the sole idea of poverty and transmuting it into a new type of luxury. If the proportions and elegance of rococo furniture are respected, the recycled cardboard is certainly snubbing the original precious woods and gilded bronzes. Emilie is self-taught and creates her own techniques, draws her plans, creates her patterns, imagines interior and exterior finishes, cuts and assembles… Her “signature” piece, the chest of drawers “Pompadour”, iconic decorative furniture piece, is still an area of expression of Emilie’s creativity, sometimes irreverent.
Etienne Moyat: “I have established my workshop at the heart of the Limousin region. I am surrounded by trees waiting to be given a second life. I have tamed the language of the fire and worked on the shapes and textures of the wood”. For your individual projects, we can work on the basis of your plans, drawings, or photos. We can also advise on the realization of carved panels for specific uses such as door and furniture lining panels, implying specific cuts.? ” Once dimensions, finish and design are approved by client, I select the most appropriate piece of tree, then draw the lines of future shapes. I carve and sculpt the wood with a chainsaw. The wood is then burnt, brushed, and the varnish is applied according to customer’s specifications. Etienne’s creations are unique and all made by hand.
